New Bike Store In Fairfield Center!
Breaking Away Bicycles is opening in downtown Fairfield just in time for the holiday season. The new store promises to be a cut above with a dedication to family biking, cycling fun, performance road, mountain, and BMX, but above all friendly service!
Owners and Fairfield residents Jeremy Burcham and Lenny Deaso and Black Rock resident Jose Arango, all former amateur or professional cyclists and well known on the county cycling scene, felt that there was a need for a bike store that catered to the needs of Fairfield families and also the serious road or mountain bike rider, in a friendly, service oriented atmosphere.  "Riding as a family, riding to the beach, riding up into the hills or getting into the local racing scene, it is all about breaking away.  We just want to provide the means for people and their families to do it." said Burcham and Deaso before they themselves set off on a road ride.
Located at 1150 Post Rd at the bottom of the Lantern Hill Section of downtown, Breaking Away Bicycles can be found just East of the main town post office. The shop will offer a full line of bikes for children and adults, plus top of the line hybrid, road and mountain bikes. Anyone into biking will also find gear and equipment for riders at all levels plus a full service shop handling everything from proper bike fit, fixing flats to building high-end custom rides.
The name of the store has its roots in Burcham's formative years as a cyclist growing up in Indiana, scene of the Little 500 bike race and Cutter's cycling team made famous in the classic movie "Breaking Away," a cycling event continuing to this day. "To a cyclist, a break away is something requiring the right timing, a lot of strength and the right instinct. It is a single, powerful and decisive move in competition that carries a rider away from the pack. This is our approach to our new Fairfield bike shop. It is a place where everyone can come and have a much better cycling experience."

Jeremy - an Indiana native who is a competitive cyclist active on the local and regional road racing circuit.  Jeremy moved up through the ranks to a Cat 2 level before taking a couple of years off.   Within that 2 years, Jeremy changed careers, got married, moved halfway across the country and now resides in Fairfield with his wife.  He has taken up the competitive side of the sport once again and looks to share his experience and knowledge with the patrons of Breaking Away Bicycles.

Jose - a native of Columbia, Jose spent his younger years on the pro circuit racing in Italy, France, Belgium and Germany.  His palmares include Columbian Championships and many other top placings throughout the world.  Even in his later years Jose can hang with the best of 'em.   He is also widely considered one of the best mechanics around.

Lenny - a Fairfield road and MTB rider well known in local riding circles.  A team leader and mentor for the Team in Training and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Lenny has been known to sing show tunes, top-40, opera, and just about anything else during the course of a long ride.  He is a former spin instructor and, to at least a few of us, is known simply as "Mapquest" (for his amazing ability to map out routes).
