When was your first race and when did you turn Pro?
"I turned pro in 2002. I was 16 at my first race."
Belgium is a special place for bike racing. Can you tell us a little bit about Belgium and what its like to be a racer there?
"In Belgium all races are important to the people. This month is especially important here. In Belgium even the smaller riders get attention so there is more opportunity for younger riders. In my opinion, it started with Eddy Merckx. He was so good and popular that it made it easier in Belgium to be a rider. In Belgium cycling and football is very popular."
What is you favorite part of being a pro?
"My favorite part is the day after a race and the day before. I like being able to relax and not have to do so much training the day before and after a race. I like to sit down the day after and relax at home."
We cant talk about Belgium and Belgium cycling without talking about Tom Boonen. Can you tell us a little bit about Tom? Do you know him well? Is he the second coming of Eddy Merckx?
